Reflexology is not ticklish, i use a fairly firm pressure when thumb walking in conjunction with various relaxing techniques. I will ask you if the pressure i am applying is comfortable for you. When working your feet there is a high probability that i will palpate an area that you may feel slightly uncomfortable or tender. This is usually a ‘crunchy bit’ or what is called a crystalline deposit which can be palpated and moved on. This is indicative of congestion or imbalance in the corresponding body part and can be of a physical, emotional or energetic nature. Many people describe the feeling as ‘a good sore’ this is a typical response when working on the spinal reflexes.
Deep relaxation is usually felt in abundance. Some clients report feelings of heat or cold on certain reflexes or actually feel it travel up their legs. It is interesting to me as a therapist to be working on someone’s sinus reflexes and to observe that person rubbing his face, or to be working on a shoulder reflex for the client to actually feel sensations in their shoulder. Others feel pulsing, tingling and a general awareness of what is going on in their bodies. Some people do not feel any of these sensations , each experience is unique to the individual.
I recommend that you drink as much water as you can. Not only does this rehydrate the body but it helps the body’s lymphatic system to get rid of waste and toxins which promote the body’s immune response. Circulation is boosted improving venus return. A wide range of reactions may be experienced after a treatment such as increased urination, changes in sleep pattern, thirst, occasional pimples and emotional responses. This is the body’s way of rebalancing itself, letting go of negative feelings and emotions so healing can begin. Symptoms should not persist and may not happen to everyone. Others report feelings of increased energy and inspiration.
Ideally, to allow the body time to find its equilibrium and to get rid of toxins and waste, a course of between six and nine treatments are recommended. Financial restraints usually determine frequency. To get the best out of these treatments lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise should also be addressed.
